“The Twelve Powers” (Understanding)

Book Recommendation:

THE TWELVE POWERS
By Charles Fillmore & Cora Fillmore
Unity House, Unity Village, Missouri (2007)

When it comes to the Power of Understanding, there are no better writings than those of Unity founders. First published in 1930, Charles Fillmore’s The Twelve Powers has gone through many different printings.  I specifically recommend using the volume referenced here, as it is a rich resource containing two books in one:  The Twelve Powers by both Charles & (second wife) Cora Fillmore, followed by Christ Enthroned in Man by Cora Fillmore.  Each book devotes an entire chapter to the Power of Understanding.

Charles Fillmore wrote, “Reference to the dictionary shows the words wisdom, understandingknowledge and intelligence to be so closely related that their definitions overlap in a most confusing way… Intellectual understanding comes first in the soul’s development, then a deeper understanding of principles follows, until the whole man ripens into wisdom.”

Regarding the concept of Spiritual Understanding, A Dictionary of New Thought Terms offers this helpful explanation: “Just as electric energy becomes a light when properly understood and used, so there is a spiritual law which, believed in, understood, and used, automatically heals.”

Charles and Cora Fillmore’s writings provide practical and invaluable insights into how to cultivate spiritual Understanding which readers at every level will find useful and encouraging.  In her volume, Cora Fillmore wrote, “In the beginning of spiritual unfoldment, divine understanding may seem to be operating in a dim light, to be clouded, indistinct, indecisive.  But within each of us is a spiritual law of light (understanding) that, if we industriously affirm it, will develop in us the power to use the attributes of God…. Spiritual understanding gives clear insight into everything.”

“….With all thy getting, get understanding.”  (Proverbs 4:7, and Forbes Magazine!)
